As a makeup artist I must say my DSLR camera is one of the best investments I have made. Asides from the fact that it produces beautiful HD footage, it is the best preview tool when it comes to perfecting a look. It picks up more than the naked eye usually sees and with this profession attention to detail is so important! I’ve talked about my camera in a vlog before but if you didn’t catch it I am currently using a Canon Rebel T2i. It’s my starter DSLR and I will advance to another one when I feel it is time 😀
I’ve had a growing admiration and appreciation for photography ever since I started doing makeup for photo shoots. You would be surprised how much effort goes into producing a beautiful image.
I was looking at some different make up looks that appeared on the runway because I draw inspiration from anything and everything. I came upon an image of Sun Fei Fei that I couldn’t take my eyes off of. She was sporting a graphic liner look on the runway and I loved how striking yet simple it was. She has one of those gorgeous faces that you could do so much with to manipulate her look.
I further looked her up and came upon the cover of the Vogue China March 2011 edition. It sparked up a whole lot of creative energy in me and lead me to do everything in my power to recreate it!
I wanted to challenge myself and this was truly a challenge! Imagine being your own model, makeup artist, and photographer in one to try to replicate an image. Not to mention your own videographer who films tutorials and produces them to share with everyone 😉 I am not a photographer so learning how to use the DSLR was and still is quite difficult for me. Life would be much easier if I had my own personal photographer and videographer whenever I need one but I wouldn’t have learned as much as I have if I didn’t challenge myself
Hey guys I feel like i’ve neglected you all for a little bit but not intentionally of course! I have been trying so hard to finish going through all of the LOL giveaway entries (and believe me I have spent countless hours doing so) but I underestimated how long it would take me >_< Please trust that I hate to keep you all hanging for too long! My good good friend that I see maybe twice a year also visited from out of town this weekend so of course I wanted to make sure he enjoyed his time here
Here’s a little random post I started writing a couple nights ago that has been saved as a draft. You will notice that I just write in the way that I would speak so excuse any bad grammar and punctuation. Actually feel free to even correct me on it! It never bothers me
I truly believe that once you begin to just see the good in people, learn to be happy and supportive of others, you will lead a much happier life yourself. Hate is for those who are bitter because they have too much negativity inside themselves. Or perhaps they just haven’t found that happiness for themselves yet. I have more respect for those who don’t bother or waste time being negative all the time. People always say the grass is greener on the other side and it couldn’t be more true. You may think everyone else has it better than you but this is the perception you choose to have. Instead of sitting around and wishing things were better, why not take the time to do something for yourself? You deserve to be happy too
Don’t get me wrong, we all have our bouts of sadness and negativity. We’re human after all. Most people are fighting to accomplish something or find their place and value in this world.
I like for my life to be full of positivity, love, and no drama 😀 Remember that if you value your self worth enough, then there is no need to let others bring it down. Humility + Confidence = SEXY in my opinion. By the way humility is in no way related to humiliation, but rather the quality of being humble and modest. Not saying that you guys are dummies and i’m sure most of you already knew but I once was confused by this word back then! >< lol
Do what makes you happy and never lose hope. Happiness and smiles are contagious so start spreading it!
Spread your wings and fly…or in my case my chicken arms 😛
I had every intention of snapping good quality pictures and filming snippets of Britney performing but we got caught with our DSLR cameras in the middle of Nicki Minaj’s opening act. They made us check in our cameras after she had finished performing. “Professional” camera and video equipment was supposedly not allowed but yet they allowed us to walk in with them in the first place! O_o This makes me so sad because I didn’t bring a point and shoot so I could only try my best to film with my phone. The pictures turned out horribly but the videos turned out better so I may share some of that footage in a future youtube vlog!
For now I can only briefly talk about my experience and show you the outfit I put together as I mentioned I would
This was my first Britney Spears concert ever and I have been a huge fan of her ever since her first hit single, “Hit Me Baby One More Time”. Can you imagine how excited I was when she performed this song?? I came into this concert with little to no expectations so I actually thought she was going to mostly perform the songs from her new Femme Fatale album. She only performed about 5 from that album and surprisingly many other older songs! I also made sure to not watch recent clips of her concerts so that I wouldn’t spoil it for myself. I thought she looked great and the show production was incredible! Nicki Minaj was also an amazing opening! Even my boyfriend (who is not a big Britney fan like I am) was impressed with this show.
Before this concert day I had been debating on what to wear. Originally I thought it would be fun to recreate an outfit and look from one of her popular music videos. Of course I wanted to go all out but I couldn’t find the red wig I was looking for. I have no regrets though because it was probably for the best since wigs aren’t the most comfortable anyways. You can probably guess which look I had in mind 😉 This is definitely a potential look for either a future tutorial or for Halloween 😀
I also thought if all fails I could try to put together a fun sequin-y or skimpy Britney-esque outfit but I wasn’t satisfied with what was available at the shops that I searched through.
Little did I know, I ended up wearing a shirt that I had recently started to DIY. So here’s an idea of how the shirt originally looked like before I had started to cut it up.
This is a random image of a fitted tee that I pulled from Google since I didn’t take a before picture of the actual shirt.
To give you an idea, the original shirt had a small opening for the head and the sleeves were a little longer and fitted so it was pretty unflattering for my boyish figure. After watching different videos on how to make your own crop top and fringe tops I was definitely inspired! I cut up the sleeves, collar to widen it, and the bottom edge of the shirt. I ,of course, also cut the slits for the fringe and tied knots at the bottom of each strand. I then pulled and stretched out each strand as well as the collar and sleeve openings to have the ends curl a bit.
I thrifted this tee from Goodwill a while back so I must say i’m pretty happy to make something better out of it! It feels good to wear something you put your own personal touch on
So what did I wear with the shirt?
Necklace and purse are from asos.com, Dollhouse Rogeri boots, American Eagle shorts, bracelets from H&M, NYX Matte nail polish in Sky BlueAnd here’s the completed look! You won’t be able to tell from these pictures but I also did an inspired makeup look of what she had on in her “I Wanna Go” music video.
I carried a whole bunch in my bag: Canon DSLR camera, extra blue sandals shown below (since I would rather not stand in heels the entire duration of the concert), and of course some makeup, keys, phone, etc.
Some of you may suggest waxing. I haven’t tried waxing so I won’t knock it ’til I try it. However, for someone like myself who has a lot of hair that grows back rather quickly, frequent upkeep of hair removal is important. I’m not sure I could be bothered with taking the time to wax every few days.
So this brings me to…the Epilator
What is an epilator? It is an electric hair removal device consisting of multiple spinning tweezers.
I spoke of my first experience using an epilator here:
It has been 2 months since and I mentioned I would do a follow up and a more in-depth review of the Emjoi Soft Caress Rechargeable Epilator so here we are!
This epilator has 36 tweezers and can be used corded or cordless. It also comes with a pouch and a few other items which are showcased in the video below.
One thing that could be improved is how there is no indication of when the epilator is fully charged. You plug it in and the red light comes on but never turns off or changes a different color.
On the Emjoi website it retails for $69.99. I bought mine off of Amazon.com for $55 and i’m sure you could even find a better deal if you just shop around. I haven’t seen this particular epilator in stores.
Here are answers to frequently asked questions according to my own personal experiences:
1. Where can you use the epilator?
You can use it on your legs, arms, bikini line, underarms, chin and upper lip. I only use mine on my underarms and upper lip. I find it too time consuming to use on the legs but that’s just me
2. Does it still hurt?
As far as the underarm goes it hurts nowhere near as much as the first time I used it. The longer I wait in between epilating and the more hair there is it will hurt a little more. It may still feel “pinchy” but my underarms don’t feel sore afterwards. It definitely hurts less now!
The pain level for my upper lip remains about the same. I use the lower setting, level 1 for finer hair, and it may hurt more simply because the hair is getting pulled out slower at this level.
3. Does it cause ingrown hair?
If anything it helped diminish the ingrown hair I had from shaving my underarms! It is recommended that you exfoliate to prevent ingrown hair. I exfoliate using my shower loofa.
4. How often do you epilate?
Some people go weeks without having to epilate again. Since not all hair grows out at once and since I have so much hair that grows back quickly, I like to epilate my underarms about twice a week and my upper lip about once a week.
5. Don’t you have to wait for the hair to grow out long enough before epilating again?
Yes and no. Hair does not all grow out at once. I can epilate my underarms one day and still find new hair growth that I can easily epilate the next day.
6. Does it make the hair grow back thicker and darker?
No because it is pulling hair out from the root.
7. Does it pinch the skin?
It CAN and HAS happened to me! It is very important that you pull the skin taut (tight) before epilating!
8. How come I can’t grab some hair no matter how many times I swipe over it?
Please watch the demo and review video below
What are the benefits of epilating?
You are plucking hair out from the root, similar to waxing, so the hair doesn’t grow back as quickly. You don’t have to deal with razor burns or wait to shower to shave. Since it is rechargeable, you can easily take it with you on the go and epilate whenever at your own convenience. You save from buying less to no shaving cream/wax 😀
Overall, I feel much MUCH less self-conscious about my underarms now. I love my epilator and will never go back to shaving my underarms! If you are sick of having that dark hair under the skin look even after you’ve shaved–consider epilating!
Hi all! How is everyone’s weekend going so far? Mine has been great! I wish I could share more pictures from this weekend with you guys but due to time I am going to only post some from a quick photo shoot I did with http://matthewmwong.com/photography today. The first and last picture in this post were taken by me. So here’s a FOTD (face of the day) and OOTD (outfit of the day) for you.
I decided to go for a softer pin-up type of look just to keep it more youthful and summery.
Few key products that i’m wearing: Missha BB Cream No. 23, MAC Dolly Mix blush on cheeks, Maybelline Ultra Liner winged out on upper lid, MAC lipstick in Viva Glam Cyndi with Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Carnation on top
Do you have clothing items and accessories in your wardrobe that go unworn? I sometimes pull these pieces out and challenge myself to incorporate them into an outfit. After all, something about those pieces compelled us to buy them in the first place right? My entire outfit in this post consists of items that haven’t been getting much love.
This necklace can look too loud or gaudy at times because the gold in it is quite bright. I decided to pair it with pale understated colors that needed something to warm it up and bring it to life. This way the necklace isn’t competing with anything, but rather bringing some balance to the outfit.
Maxi dresses used to not appeal to me much but they have really been growing on me, especially maxi skirts! The jersey material of this skirt gives it a more casual feel which I like.
I tucked the shirt into the skirt in the front and tied a knot in the back for a more flattering silhouette.
I am no fashionista by any means. If anything, I just appreciate the art of fashion and how expressive it is. Luckily now I can share with you all my experimental outfits in this blog!
Do you think this outfit works? Love it? Hate it? Let me know!
